About US

Biodefenders Agricultural Women Organization

is a women-led membership organization that unites women and young girls engaged in agriculture across Tanzania. Established to empower women in the agricultural value chain, BAWA promotes the adoption of organic inputs, sustainable farming practices, and agribusiness development to ensure resilient food systems, environmental protection, and community well-being.

Our organization was formed with a simple yet powerful mission — to help women farmers move from subsistence to sustainability. By offering continuous training, mentorship, and market linkages, BAWA equips its members with the skills, tools, and networks needed to thrive in a rapidly changing agricultural landscape.

We believe that women are at the heart of every thriving community. Through their hard work in farming and food production, they nourish families and drive local economies. BAWA strengthens this vital role by ensuring that every woman farmer gains access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities to grow both her farm and her income.

🌾 What We Do

we empower women and young girls to thrive in agriculture through hands-on organic farming training, business development, and sustainability skills. Our programs teach members how to grow healthy crops, reduce food waste, turn farm by-products into value, and build profitable agribusinesses — all while protecting the environment and supporting community livelihoods.

Membership & Benefits

BAWA operates as a membership-based organization, meaning every woman and young girl who joins gains access to collective benefits and shared growth opportunities.

Our Impact

Growing Change, Empowering Women

Since our formation, BAWA has reached dozens of women and young girls across the Kilimanjaro region — equipping them with practical skills in organic farming, agribusiness, and value addition. Through hands-on training and mentorship, our members have established productive home gardens, reduced post-harvest losses, and increased their income through better market access and eco-friendly farming practices.

We’ve seen women transform from smallholder farmers into confident agripreneurs — leaders who inspire others in their communities to adopt sustainable agriculture and protect the environment. Each success story adds to our mission of building a resilient, self-sufficient generation of women farmers.
